THE Nordic Ergonomics Society (NES) was founded in Stockholm in 1969 and will be 50 years old in 2019. The Society was founded by researchers, educators and practitioners from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, all with a great interest in ergonomics. For years, they had participated in meetings and conferences held by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), which encouraged the establishment of national ergonomic associations. Later, each of the Nordic countries
stablished its own association, but ultimately agreed to combine forces to create the NES. The objective of the NES, however, is the same: “to promote collaboration between member organisations and individuals in the Nordic countries who
have an interest in, or are working with, ergonomics and the working environment, and to facilitate Nordic collaboration in international activities. The NES also increases and promotes knowledge about the interactions between humans and the environment in which they live and work and facilitates the use of that knowledge in the design of the working environment, equipment and processes”.
