Modeling the compliant micro polishing tools wear via pin on disk tribometer

Abstract

In this paper, an approach for tool wear modelling based on pin on disk tests is proposed to support in-process wear compensation. Thus, two modified models for material removal of part (disk) and wear of compliant abrasive embedded tool (pin) were proposed. The pin on disk test was used as the alternative process to investigate the material removal and wear in the part and tool respectively. The proposed models, shows good fit in prediction of material removal and wear on part (disk) and tool (pin) and can be used for the scope of wear compensation.
