    Abstract

This paper addresses network survivability for Multicast transport over MPLS-TP ring topology networks. Protection mechanisms standardized for unicast are not fully suitable for multicast point-to-multipoint transmission and multicast schemes are not standardized yet. Therefore, this paper investigates one of the proficient protection schemes and uses OPNET Modeler for analyzing and designing networks with the chosen protection method. For failure detection and protection switching initiation, the OAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) functions will be added to the system model. From the obtained simulation results, it is expected to quantify how different parameters influence the defect detection time, packets loss, delay and bandwidth utilization.
