    Abstract

The scheduling policy adopted in the LTE (Long Term Evolution) MAC layer is the most valuable degree of freedom left from the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) consortium to the industry and the research community . This paper presents an OPNET model of the downlink scheduling in a one-cell scenario with heterogeneous traffic. Two scheduling policies are considered: Round Robin and Best CQI (Channel Quality Indicator). The Best CQI scheme tries to maximize cell thoughput by taking radio link quality into account, whereas roun d robin operates with no feedback from the mobiles. The policies are compared in terms of cell throughput and scheduling delay.
