    Abstract

Current neutron instrumentation is both complex and expensive, and accurate simulation has become essential both for building new instruments and for using them effectively. The McStas neutron ray-trace simulation package is a versatile tool for producing such simulations, developed in collaboration between Riso and ILL. The new version (1.7) has many improvements, among these added support for the popular Microsoft Windows platform. This presentation will demonstrate a selection of the new features through a simulation of the ILL IN6 beamline. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
