Magnetic-Field-Dependence of the Excitation Energies in the Mixed-Valent Compound

    Abstract

    We have performed inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the mixed-valent compound TmSe in external magnetic fields up to 9T at low temperatures. The ground state of TmSe shows a linear Zeeman splitting and can be described as a doublet with Image and geff=3.8. The excited state at 10 meV is only weakly affected by the application of an external magnetic field.
