    Abstract

The utility of a gas-filled proportional counter in low-energy γ spectroscopy is greatly increased if it is operated in coincidence with an escaping fluorescent X-ray. An apparatus, having an efficiency greater than 10% of singles, is described and several examples are given. An efficiency curve is presented.
