The present monograph covers wave load and global structural
response for ships. It is primary written as a textbook for
students with an introductionary background in naval architecture
and a basic knowledge of statistics and strength of materials. The
subjects are treated in details starting from first principles.
The aim has been to derive and present the necessary theoretical
framework for predicting the extreme loads and the corresponding
hull girder stresses the ship may be subjected to during its
operational lifetime.Although some account is given to reliabiity
analysis, the present treatment has to be supplemented with
methods for detailed stress evaluation and for structural strength
assessment before a complete structural reliability analysis can
be carried out.
