Liquid Film Diffusion on Reaction Rate in Submerged Biofilters

    Abstract

    Experiments were carried out in order to investigate the influence of liquid film diffusion on reaction rate in a submerged biofilter with denitrification and in order to compare with a theoretical study of the mass transfer coefficient. The experiments were carried out with varied flow, identified by the empty bed velocity of inflow and recirculation, respectively 1.3, 2.8, 5.6 and 10.9 m/h. The filter material consisted
    of 3 mm biostyren spheres. The results indicate that the influence of liquid film diffusion on reaction rate can be ignored.
