    Abstract

Linked data and semantic web technologies offer promising characteristics in terms of meaningful integration of disparate information sources in the built environment and their exchange on a web scale. The current state of the art, however, focusses on large and monolithic schemas, which poses serious barriers for the effortless development of intelligent applications consuming this information. In this work, we propose a modular approach leveraging on the semantic integration capabilities of linked data to enable seamless information exchange among stakeholders in the exchange process as well as accessing it for web-based applications. We study the methodology by applying it to a use case related to the Open Smart Home Data Set; a data set obtained from a real-world smart home system.
