Abstract
This paper summarizes the latest developments in numerical simulation and optimization of resistance welding as well as the new developments in 3D simulation. Resistance welding simulation can be applied for prediction of weld nugget sizes in various material combinations, and for optimization and planning of welding process parameters. Microstructures and hardness distribution can also be modelled for the material properties in the weld zone after welding. New developments have been made for 3D simulation of complex joints especially for projection welding and micro resistance welding, as well as complex cases of spot welding. Some examples are presented to demonstrate the applications of simulation for welding aluminium with adhesives.
