Abstract
For more than 50 years, John P O'Connell has served the Chemical Engineering community and in particular, the Thermodynamics community, since he joined as a faculty member of the University of Florida in 1966. John has had a very active career – faculty member, department chair, visiting scholar, educator, organizer (of conferences, workshops, teaching, to name a few), author (books, research articles), editor and, last but not the least, services to professional societies (AIChE, ACS, etc) and governmental organizations (NSF, NIST, etc.). He is currently a member of the AIChE Board of Directors (also a Fellow of AIChE) and Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia.
