Abstract
A questionnaire study was performed about the use of hearing protectors in Danish symphony orchestras. The musicians in three Danish symphony orchestras were asked to complete a questionnaire about their use of hearing protection. A total of 146 musicians filled in the questionnaire. Results showed that musicians are aware of the dangers of loud music, that they only use hearing protectors to some extent, and that hearing protector is sometimes used only in one ear. Musicians are concerned about their hearing and musicians that experience hearing problems use hearing protectors more frequently.
At present an investigation is performed about the use of hearing aids as hearing protectors by symphony orchestra musicians. Preliminary results from this investigation will be presented at the conference.
