Abstract
This paper presents a numerical investigation of
the electromagnetic properties of the backfire monofilar helical
antenna. The current distribution along the helical conductor,
the input impedance, and the front-to-back ratio are calculated
and analyzed for the backfire operation of the antenna. A parametric
study of the helical geometry and the resulting antenna
characteristics will be described and discussed. The currents and
fields are calculated using the simulation software AWAS based
on the Method of Moments with a wire representation of the
ground plane.
