    Abstract

(Translated from Portuguese) Nowadays, methods to assess robustness and reliability are widely applied in industry. There is, however, a gap in the applicablility of those methods to early stages in the engineering design process. Product information is collected and interpreted into descriptive models; three methods are used to assess robustness and reliability issues; and, the requirements of design onformation to use those methods are characterized. From comparing the type of information methods require, they use information difficult to obtain by the conceptual design phase. There is need, therefore, for further studies in applicable methodologies with information from early design phases.
