Interleaved Hybrid Flyback-Forward Converter with Double Step-down Voltage and Natural Current Sharing

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Article in proceedings › Research › peer-review

Abstract

This paper presents an interleaved hybrid flyback and forward (IHFF) converter that is used for transformer-based point-of-load (PoL) conversion. The converter charges and discharges energy as a flyback converter but functions as a forward converter. Due to high current on the secondary side, the double current structure is preferred. And hence, the current sharing is necessary. By using a series capacitor on the primary side, the topology achieves natural current balancing and a double-step-down voltage gain. The topology also reduces voltage stress on switches and provides interleaved operation. As a consequence, the topology becomes a potential candidate for data centers, voltage regulator module (VRM), and PoL applications.
