Abstract

Temporally modulated light emitting diodes (LEDs) can influence comfort, health and safety. Therefore, the European Commission introduced Ecodesign requirements with respect to temporal light modulation (TLM). To accommodate measurements of these TLM metrics, SI traceability for TLM measurement methods has been developed, which has been validated in an interlaboratory comparison. Eight participants measured the flicker and stroboscopic effect of eleven artefacts. The results show artefact stability and comparing the degrees of equivalence against a comparison reference value based on the mean of the participant measurements. Most lamps were stable, and the flicker and stroboscopic effect values were overall in good consensus, except some outliers which could have been the result of underestimation of uncertainty of some individual participants, differences in algorithm and systematic errors by individual participants.
