We claim that important considerations have been overlooked in
designinginteractive mathematics educational software in the
past.In particular, most previous work has concentrated on how to
make use ofpre-existing software in mathematics education, rather
than firstasking the more fundamentalquestion of which
requirements mathematics education puts on software, and
thendesigning software to fulfil these requirements. We present a
working prototype system which takes a script defining an
interactivemathematicaldocument and then provides a reader with an
interactive realization of thatdocument.
