Abstract

A team of researchers conducted a study to investigate the influence of section depth on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete continuous deep beams. The team demonstrated that the upper bound plasticity approach was used to predict the ultimate strength of this type of structures. The researchers used an effectiveness factor Vc given by Equation 7 to conduct the investigations. The factor Kc depended on the principal strain ratio ε1/ε3 in this formula. The researchers also used the expressions for the plastic strains ε1 and ε3 in the yield line and substituted -ε1/ε3 in Kc with 1 + sinα/1 - sinα.
