N2 - The stabilization of a nonlinear system against period-doubling bifurcations by means of a periodic perturbation has been investigated. With the Josephson junction as a model system, both numerical simulations (including noise) and measurements on Josephson tunnel junctions have been performed. The effect of the noise is found to be of fundamental importance.
