Industrial Non-Destructive Inspection by Mid-Infrared Optical Coherence Tomography

Abstract

In response to global challenges such as climate change, pollution reduction, and waste management, advancing production processes is crucial. A central challenge is careful monitoring the manufacturing steps, requiring novel versatile non-destructive inspection (NDI) techniques that are are, fast, non-contact, and easily integrated. Examples are visual inspection and ultrasound scanning, which already to some extend are standardized in the industrial sectors to ensure that manufacturing follows defined specifications. The different NDI techniques enables reduction of scrap material and introduces new component quality control measures for which cost of production may also be reduced. With existing NDI techniques, it is generally difficult to inspect all parts of a product, which is why multiple testing modalities are combined.
