Abstract

This study focuses on reintegration in the context of intraorganizational temporary organizations, which refers to the extent to which an employee who works away from the permanent functional organization in a temporary project returns and re-adjusts. The study employs a qualitative research method to identify the unique challenges and issues in the reintegration experience of employees in a large Danish company. The issues and challenges were grouped into four main themes: (1) project worker’s behavior, (2) functional manager’s behavior, (3) functional team’s behavior, and (4) organizational capabilities. This study also captures and provides a list of the mitigation methods that can be exercised to overcome the identified challenges and to improve reintegration experience of the employees in the context of temporary organizing. Some implications for managers, employees and organizations and directions for future research are discussed as well.
