Abstract

The paper focuses on improvement strategy development. The design entails case study research in three organizations. The theoretical framework includes Hoshin Kanri, Knowledge Management, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
The analysis points to the benefit of including strategy VSM as it enables a more complete knowledge creation process particularly ensuring Combination and Internalization patterns in the mix from the perspective of the SECI model.
The paper contributes by applying knowledge management in a new context and by further advancing the VSM analysis to a strategic level rather operational and tactical levels as commonly used in the literature.
