Abstract
Outsourcing - once considered a defensive tool for cost reduction - has proven to be an effective acquisition tool enabling aggressive technology development, A multi case study in 7 Danish machinery equipment manufacture illustrate a number of similar issues/challengers in their development e.g. creating benefit in the potential of using the supplier-network to acquiretechnologies to obtain market leadership. Nilpeter is a leading manufacturer within lable printing presses , selling its label printing equipment worldwide in competition with 3 other global players. The case of Nilpeter illustrates well the challenges in offering more attractive products to the market to continue lower prices.
The company has focused its attention around customer satisfaction , enabled by strategic sourcing and customization. The customization is carried out to improve the match between the expectation of the customers and the delivered solution and strategic sourcing to do this effective. This paper describes the change process towards the efficient utilization of the supplier network.
