Abstract

This chapter aims at presenting a comprehensive introduction, progress report, and technoeconomic analysis on the recently introduced mechanical energy storage sys­tem to the literature, that is, high-temperature heat and power storage (HTHPS). The chapter is one of those in the book that also well considers the impact of dynamics of the operating load and off-design conditions on the technical, environ­mental, and economic effectiveness of the system. In addition, there is a case study analysis part that helps the readers better see the quantified performance of the sys­tem in real operational conditions in various aspects. Like the previous chapters, the modeling part tries to be as thorough as possible to enable the readers, espe­cially the MSc/PhD students or early-career engineers/researchers, to do their own simulations, computer programming, or case study analyses on various configura­tions of HTHPS. As the technology is getting much attention in at least some parts of the world for fast commercialization, there is finally a future perspective part that aims at giving the best possible picture of the system in the corning years.
