Abstract

Yb-doped photonic-bandgap fiber sources operating at the long-wavelength edge of the gain band are presented. Novel gain-profile engineering by the bandpass distributed filtering enables amplified-spontaneous-emission-free gain and power scaling to >15dB and >160W at 1178nm.
