Abstract
Thyroid hormone system-disrupting compounds can cause developmental hypothyroidism, adversely affecting thyroid hormone-dependent processes, including brain development. Inhibition of thyroperoxidase (TPO) in the thyroid gland is a key mechanism leading to such adverse effects, but the direct impact on the developing thyroid gland remains insufficiently characterized, not least at the transcriptional level.
