    Abstract

The results of the gating system design optimization led to the following conclusions: - geometric form of gating system element has key role in the initial filing of the mold; - conducted modeling confirms the effectiveness of presented gating system designs in reduction of velocity of metal entering the mould cavity; - improper expansion of the ingate may cause the detachment of the stream from the mould wall which would cause reoxidation of the metal and degrade castings quality; - further development of simulation software would allow to account the influence of oxide and bubble formation on the quality of the casting.
