Abstract

The electrode is based upon a single grain (2) of a material such as nickel cermet. The surface of the grain is partially covered by a thin coating of a high temperature ceramic material, such as ZrO2, CeO2, TiO2. The coating is between 0.05 and 5 mu m thick. The element is located on an intermediate layer (6) that is a mix of an ion and electrode conducting material and this is formed on a solid electrolyte, eg ZrO2 or Al2O3
