This article presents synchrotron‐based in situ grazing incidence X‐ray diffraction on Gd/Pt(111) single crystals in order to monitor the formation and evolution of the active phase as well as understand the structure–activity–stability relationships. The active surface phase consists of a Pt overlayer under compressive strain, formed upon immersion into aqueous acidic electrolyte at open circuit conditions. The compressively strained overlayer is very stable under potentials relevant for the oxygen reduction reaction. For more information, see the Full Paper by M. Escudero‐Escribano, I.
