Abstract

This work introduces an automated Python-based framework that converts blade definitions encoded in WindIO structures into Abaqus finite element models and, on the same meshes, automatically maps and applies loads calculated with HAWC2 [1] aeroelastic simulations. This pipeline allows for standardisation of geometry, materials and lay-up conversion through the use of the pyNuMAD framework [2]; generates finite element models; and allows traceable load application in different conditions and extreme load cases. This integration enables us not only to systematically evaluate the designs of wind turbine blades under different conditions but also to analyse different failure modes and perform reliability analysis. The resulting databases from the framework are used to train surrogate models, allowing us to reduce computational times and to perform reliability analysis and design screening. Overall, the framework allows to scale data-driven blade testing in an envelope of scenarios. The framework is intended for researchers and industrial practitioners who require consistent structural blade models across many operating conditions without manual remeshing and load re-application. Its value lies not only in the automation, but in providing a traceable and mechanically consistent load-transfer methodology whose accuracy and robustness can be quantified across multiple cases.
