An adaptive realtime algorithm for minimisation of total power
input to a receiving structure has been derived, implemented and
tested, and this control algorithm has proved to be robust and
reliable. Simulation studies ahve clearly demonstrated that the
algorithm behaves exactly as should be expected from frequency
domain predictions. Experimental trials in the laboratory have
supported these observations. Again, the reductions of the
measured total power input to the receiving structure were in
perfect agreement with the results obtained by analytically
minimising the controller cost function. Apart from the good
results obtained with this control strategy under ideal
circumstances, observations have also been made of the detrimental
effects of 'flanking paths' and measurement errors that may be
experienced in a practical implementation.
