Abstract

The number of fire incidents are increasing, especially for large vessels. Indications are that the fire extinguishing and fire detection systems have not kept up with the vessel’s enlargements. Therefore, knowledge of the fire-spreading mechanism between containers is one of many essential parts in increasing fire safety aboard container ships.
