Abstract

Modeling the wind power generation relies on simulating its intermittency and spatio-temporal dependencies. For such, time series (TS) from high spatial and temporal resolutions data sets are required, which hinder the use of climate simulations in energy modeling. We present a method for validating regional climate simulations for power and energy system (P&ES) modeling applications. A 3-hourly ensemble is assessed in metrics relevant for modeling wind variability, which is crucial for a number of applications (e.g., power system integration, optimal transmission planning, system adequacy, etc.), but usually disregarded in similar studies.
