Abstract
Erosion-corrosion is dominated by two mechanisms; electrochemical corrosion and mechanical wear. Furthermore an interaction between the electrochemical and mechanical processes can become significant and eventually cause material failure. The electrochemical processes can be monitored by sensitive electrochemical measurements. Such measurements provide further insight into the corrosion related mechanisms in relation to previous examinations based on no more than weight loss. Materials applicable for the industry are examined in a flow of fluid and suspended particles and monitored by electrochemical measurements, such as potentiodynamic polarisation curves and potentiostatic monitoring of current and potential. The results are used to compare the resistance of different materials against erosion-corrosion and to show the effects of parameters such as solid particle loading, flow and environment.
