    Abstract

The wind energy resource of Northern Europe is spread out over a geographically large area. This helps the utilities to integrate wind energy into their grids, since the generation is less variable, when it is combined from a larger area. The analysis wasdone based on 34 years of Reanalysis data. A short overview of the resource is given. The main analysis deals with the smoothing stemming from the averaging of multiple time series from many sites in the Nordic countries and south of the Baltic/North Sea.
