In the case of a simpel round cylindrical cup the relation between the limit-drawing ratio (LDR) and process parameters such as material properties (n, R, E0), friction and the geometry of tool and blank is invesigated. On the basis of well-known upper-bound and lower-bound principles of plasticity, a computerprogram was developed to calculate the drawing force and critical (bottom frature) force. The theoretical values are in good agreement with experiments. From the result of modelling, computation and experiments, simplified formulas to calculate the forces and the limit drawing rati are derived. An explicit relation between the LDR and the above-mentioned process parameters was found. The result is in good agreement with practical experience.
