Abstract

Using a two-dimensional electromagnetic and relativistic particle code, we show that both whistler and electromagnetic waves can be emitted from a region where an electron shear-flow instability occurs in electron-ion plasma. The emission mechanism of the whistler waves is due to the generation of electron Hall current, which is produced by the electron vortex motions associated with the electron shear-flow instability.
