Abstract
Work by Brønsted and Kane on decomposition of sodium amalgam
(1929-1930), interpretation of their results by Frumkin and much
later findings by Frumkin and coworkers have been of importance in
formulation of a model for corrosion of metals and other reactions
taking place at mixed potentials. The latest examinations of
amalgam decomposition reveal the occurrence of non-electrochemical
dissolution of metal.
