    Abstract

    The report describes how electricity now can be produced directly from atomic energy without the use of pumps, turbines etc. This is possible by using magnetohydrodynamic (MHD), thermoelectricity and thermionic in connection with a nuclear reactor or radioisotopes as heat sources. The report also explains the main principles of these three direct conversion methods and some of the problems, they must overcome, before they become imiportant as power sources. Some of the present and future systems are described.
