Elastic LO-phonon scattering as an efficient mechanism of dephasing and homogeneous broadening in quantum dots

    Abstract

    The spectral linewidth of optical transitions in quantum dots is shown to be strongly broadened by elastic scattering of LO phonons on the confined carriers. The scattering does not excite the carriers but results in a large dephasing rate.
