Abstract

Shared mooring system can offer great potential to reduce costs in expanding floating offshore wind farms, despite complicating motion performance. This study designs an optimal shared mooring system for 10MW OO-Star floating offshore wind turbines. By analyzing platform motion and mooring tension under extreme conditions, the length and diameter of the shared mooring lines were optimized. Results show that although the proposed layout increases the platforms' horizontal displacement and maximum mooring tension, these responses remain safely within technical requirements. Crucially, implementing this shared mooring system reduces the total mooring cost by 14.09% for the same wind farm scale, significantly improving economic benefits.
