Abstract

A device for detecting an ice cover layer on a sample comprises: a source for generating and emitting pulses of electromagnetic radiation, the pulses of electromagnetic radiation being directable on a sample, a detector for detecting pulses of the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the sample, and the detector being configured to determine, in dependence on at least one of the detected pulses, whether the sample is covered with a cover layer of ice.
