Abstract
In a research project about the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, DR, as building client and build-ing operator over time, I investigated how these functions, which today are seen as part of FM, have emerged historically. I followed the development from the very start, when DR was estab-lished as the Danish State Radio in 1925, through rapid expansion after the introduction of TV in the 1950’s, stagnation around the end of monopoly on national TV in 1988 and until the recent establishing of the multimedia centre DR City (DR Byen) as new headquarters. DR is a state owned company, which is obliged to submit their archives to the Danish national archive institution, and the research included archive studies both at the national archives and at DR’s own library, includ-ing scrutinising all DR’s annual reports and anniversary publications. Besides, I conducted inter-views with a number of key persons.
