    Abstract

This paper describes the results of research regarding the emerging theory of Holonic Manufacturing Systems. This theory and in particular its corresponding reference architecture serves as the basis for the development of a system-architecture for shop floor control systems in a multi-cellular context. The development and implementation of the system-architecture, named HoMuCS (Holonic Multi-cell Control System) is described and its applicability is investigated through two industrial case studies.
