Determination of Eigenstresses in Hardening Concrete.

    Abstract

    It is the aim of the present ph.d.-project to develop methods for calculation as well as measurements of eigenstresses in concrete due to (autogenous) shrinkage of cement paste. The calculations will be carried out with the use of experimentally determined material properties such as autogenous shrinkage, modulus of elasticity, creep/relaxation etc. A special "stress-sensor" will be developed to measure the hydrostatic pressure inside a spherical aggregate when surrounded by cement paste that undergoes shrinkage.
