Abstract
Matched-feed horns can be employed to reduce the inherent cross polarization of offset reflector antennas. For circular horns, the traditional method is to excite TE21 modes in the aperture. We recently proposed that TE01 or TM01 modes can be used instead, for horizontal and vertical polarization, respectively. To validate this, a matched feed using TMo1 is designed and demonstrated for the first time. The presented horn reduces cross polarization by 1 7 dB at the design frequency and by 10 dB over a 2.2 % bandwidth.
