    Abstract

The following article is part of an investigation on the effect of Ta addition to Ni-based superalloys. This part deals with the creep properties. Two commercial alloys (Nimonic 80A and Waspaloy) and two experimental alloys containing Ta have been studied. It was found that Ta significantly improves the creep resistance only if the ageing treatment is carried out to develop fully the size and volume fraction of the γ′ precipitates. Ta addition also affects the values of Q and n, i.e. the activation energy for creep and the stress exponent.
