CFD simulations of a conceptual Rain Erosion Teste

This document presents CFD computations of a Rain Erosion Tester,
including the effects of configuration of the surrounding chamber, pitch
setting, inflow velocity and compressibility. Generally, it is concluded that the
aerodynamic effect from the chamber configuration, and compressibility is
weak. It is concluded that the zero degrees pitch of the blades give a
undisturbed velocity field above the disk, and that negative pitch settings
should be avoided even though the aerodynamic effects on the rain particles
must be considered to be relatively low. Additionally, it is concluded that
power consumption could be reduced by improving the aerodynamic profile of
the rotor blades.
