Abstract
This study evaluates the capacity for spalling failures in lightweight aggregate concrete with open structure (LAC) and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) walls under concentrated loads. Experimental investigations included large-scale wall tests and material property assessments, revealing multiple failure modes: spalling, wall splitting, and local failures. Spalling failure models showed strong alignment with experimental results, influencing updates to DS/INF 168:2023 and DS/INF 169:2023. Further research targets enhancing design formulas for local failures and exploring capacities of lighter concretes, contributing to safer, cost-effective, and sustainable structural designs
